Speed vs Contentment

At home I do the majority of the cooking, Tash (my other half) claims to be a foodie but doesn't like cooking, this makes no sense to me. If I wasn't here I'm sure she would live on her go to easy foods, stuffing and gravy or pasta and garlic mayo.....seriously I'm not kidding. sometimes I've had one of those days where I don't really want to cook.Unfortunately I usually end up throwing something together or using some left overs, this is because I am not content being made rice covered with gravy...yup apparently thats a meal. One day i got up the courage to ask Tash, why don't you like cooking? the answer was that it wasn't that she doesn't like it but that when she is hungry she would rather eat quickly regardless of taste than spend a long time cooking even if its a better more rounded meal. To me the concept of a more tasty meal and the cost of a little extra time is a no brainer. It turns out it's not the same for everyone. The question I ask is why would people make the vote for speed over contentment? I can think of a few reasons: 1. Tired 2. No Time 3. Being Lazy But all of these are solved by actually taking the time to cook, If you're going to make a meal why not make it in a larger batch, most of my favourite foods taste as good if not better as left overs the next day or at a later date if froze, I imagine i will get some food fanatics calling blasphemy "How day I warm up food" the fact is you can't cook all the time and in reality who wants to.. Take a bit of time at the weekend throw two or three dishes together in batches, put some of these in the fridge and some in the freezer, so when you get home tired from work all you have to do is a throw on some veg, warm the meal, pop open bottle of wine and relax content eating good well prepared food leaving you content proving that speed vs contentment doesn't need to be an issue. Luckily for Tash I make food in large enough quantities that there are always leftovers. It's actually very rare for her to actually need to cook, she is getting better these days though I have to say, she makes a great tasting spagetti bolognese the only issue she has is the patience to let it simmer and thicken.... Once again in Tash's world speed wins over contentment but at least its' a start.
